This s a rare hand painted clown playing the saxophone from Leonhard Staudt, Germany. An early mechanical tin toy from ca.1905. The clown is seated on a painted tin round stool with clockwork plink-plink music. He holds and plays a cello.He is dressed in original clothes withtrimmed collar vest and sleeves. When wound up he moves as if playing the cello very well detailed example. 8-1/2" h.( 22 cm). Germany ca 1915. Excellent condition.Leonhard Staudt is one of the oldest toy factories in Nürnberg, Germany. Founded in 1860. Working fine and all original. Good condition minor paint chips. Cello restored to the paint.
