Mandarin in the early version with hand painted coolies. Made by Lehmann before 1920 in Brandenburg. This windup toy features two coolies walking along with natural leg motion carrying a man seated in a highly decorated box. The man in the box is holding the pigtail of the front coolie, presumably confirming his superior social status. Wind up. Working fine.Good condition. Only minor wear. Early handpainted monkey ca. 1910. When the clockwork is activated he springs around. A very charming toy! The condition is great . Ca 1910. Length. 6"/ 15, 25 cm. Probably made by Günthermann, Germany.

A Fernand Martin (France) clockwork automaton, "Le Pochard" (the drunkard) from 1899. Martin toys are portraying French life in the 19th century. They are crude in one way and sophisticated in another. Martin''s genius was to observe everyday people and transform them into toys. Many times toys are made for children but with adults in mind. The subtleties would be lost on a child. This is an early toy figure of a drunkard, with painted face, grey top hat with the Martin mark, a bottle and cup, with permanent key, black metal feet, check trousers and plain tunic (some wear and tear). Made to walk with a stagger and periodically take a drink, has survived remarkable well. See F.Marchand,L''Historie des Jouets Martin,Paris 1987.

This is an exquisite Biedermeier China head doll, lovely detailed painted face, long slender neck and fine shoulder plate. She has beautifully painted features and molded black hair. Arms and legs also china. She is on her original cloth body, her feet with painted flat boots. Her all original antique silk dress and hansewn underwear is so wonderful. A soft pink silk antique gown with wonderful details, .Fine cotton underwear with skirt, pantalons.Perfect doll for the early doll house! And a dollhouse doll rare to find in this condition! ( minor wear to silk due to age) Size 8"/ 20,5 cm. Ca 1850

Disney Pluto "Watch Me Roll Over!" Tin Wind-up Toy 1939 Marx Co.

Early Marx Toy Company tin wind-up. Really bright and colorful graphics, very little wear from use. This is a 1939 Pluto "Watch Me Roll Over!" tin wind-up. Pluto's metal tail with a tiny wooden knob on the end helps Pluto roll over in a large circle when wound up. His ears are black rubber. The Marx Toy Company logo of the period is on Pluto's wind-up side, and "1939 Walt Disney Prod." copyright logo appears on his other side. Pluto is 21 cm/8 ¼" long , 2 ½"wide, and 2 ¾" tall without his tail. Pluto has an angled tiny wood wheel in front, and two thin metal wheels in back, causing him to always move in a circle. The black base also has Pluto's paws lithographed on.
